The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)
The success of any game is always unknowable until it’s shipped. The product of years of work, Skyrim continues to live on as a game of legend. It’s certainly one of the projects in which I’m most proud to have played a part.
It was refreshing to return to a nature and fantasy soundscape after Fallout. It was also the first time I truly felt prepared with a high-level vision for how I wanted the game world to sound and feel, a clearer picture of how music should fit in, and more seasoned plans for how voice direction could drive the actors to match the world of Skyrim.
Even so, the game was a monumental technical and creative challenge, requiring the entire development team’s best work, and an undying belief in what we were making. The scale of the project required expanded voiceover and casting needs, and pushed my sound design skills. An intensive collaboration also ultimately produced one of composer Jeremy Soule’s most beloved scores.
