Fallout 76 (2018)
Even though Fallout 76 meant continuing to work in a universe the audio team knew well, it proved an immensely rewarding project. It represented the team's first online, multiplayer game, which raised a host of new sound design challenges.
To reflect multiple players at once, the team made technical improvements that allowed us to further blur the line between sound design and gameplay. Live players could hear gunfire and explosions caused by other players in real time, all while experiencing a speed-of-sound delay that heightened the sense of realism.
A highlight of Fallout 76 is the unique collaboration between the sound design and Inon Zur's musical score. This interplay creates a particularly intimate landscape for the player, making this project one of my absolute favorites. New licensed music was also incorporated into the game's radio, including an original cover of John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads," recorded in-studio with the vocal group SPANK in New York City.
The game has continued to grow and thrive in the hands of the BGS Austin studio, endlessly evolving and branching out with new content, player challenges, new characters and music.
